School me on electric dirt bikes

I think it’d be fun to have an e-dirt bike for the kids (13, 11, 7) to ride around on our property. I want something fairly small and not-too-powerful, but something that I could actually get on and putter around on sometimes, too (Grom style). I’m 6'1", 225. Would be more for the older kids and me than our little guy (he’d use it as he gets older). I could see paying a grand or two for something like this, so I won’t be buying the pictured KTM, which is too little anyway.

I’ve learned that they sound like big RC cars, so not exactly music to the ears. Not completely opposed to gas powered, but wondering if electric might be the right choice for how we’d use it, at this point.

Your thoughts?

I don’t know anything about e-dirt bikes but I feel like the best option for the kids would be gas then they can putter around without hours of recharge time.

How about something like a Super73 ebike? (Or any of the similar styles)

I’d look at oset. They might be a bit small and are trial orientated but have a solid rep.

Agreed, for turnkey bikes Oset seem very popular. Available in a multitude of sizes. Pretty sure a seat pad is available as well, as most are intended to be Trials bikes.

Idk about Dave, but for me the appeal of electric is you don’t have to worry about neighbors complaining about the noise.

A h yeah ... good point. I forget people might consider that. I’m surrounded by farms so there’s always a couple small engines and a couple diesel engines going in the distance

I dont think it would be good for kids but I’ve been eyeing a Sur ron.

Not much, I’ve seen a couple of those in SF people put slicks on and ride to work with. They made crazy noises and seem fast.

Not too worried about the noise. Just thinking it may be the better solution for how we’d use it (assuming I can get an hour or two of riding per charge).

If you got 3 kiddos hot seating it the battery isn’t going to keep up

Maybe, but w e have a gas-powered go-kart already, they’re only good for a few laps each before they want to go do something else.

They certainly look fun. I'm about to add an electric motor to my bike and join the less sweaty.

I’m not sure where “they’re” at for battery capacity these days on small dirt bikes, but last time I read anything about ‘em you’re looking at more of a 20-40 minute window tops if they rev em up; followed by a long recharge cycle. Bigger bikes have bigger frames for bigger batteries. But is has been a while since I’ve looked into it at all. I know Z eroes had exchangeable packs at one point so maybe someone else does that too.

Stumbled on to this today. Maybe they do make kids sizes.

Time for a group buy.
